Do i need the more expensive oil and oil filter?

I am not comparing the most expensive vs the cheapest one, but I see that oil and oil filter have higher mileage rating with the more expensive one (10k vs 15k vs 20k).

I have done some oil changes at the dealership before. The free ones came with new cars, and noticed that I drove only around 3k to 5k during each of the changes.

So do the oil with the 20k mile label last longer (oil runs out slower than the normal one) or are they only for people that drive a lot?
